After being invited to participate in the USA Softball Women's National Team Camp in the summer of 2001, Amy was selected to one of two teams representing our country in international competitions such as the U.S. Cup in Honolulu, the Canada Cup in Vancouver and the Pan Am Qualifier in Maracay, Venezuela during the season.
Previously, Chellevold served four years on the University of Arizona coaching staff. One of the greatest players in NCAA softball history, she joined the staff in December 1995. Amy is Arizona's first four-time All-Pac-10 team selection and was a three-time All-American. She left the college game as the NCAA career leader in hits (371) and runs (252), plus finished at Arizona with a career batting average of .415. As a coach, Chellevold's competitiveness has been part of the Wildcats' playing style for the past three years. Chellevold and Stacy Hill, the assistants under Coach Mike Candrea, were able to take on increased roles in some of the administrative and recruiting processes so critical to an elite program like Arizona's. "Amy is one of the finest players to ever play the game and made everyone around her play better. I'm seeing that in her coaching ability, too," Candrea says. "Sometimes great players don't make good coaches, but Amy seems to have the skill." Chellevold's name is in the Wildcat record book several dozen times in numerous offensive and defensive categories. She played on Wildcat teams which combined for a 232-24 record, a .906 winning percentage, two NCAA championships and three Pac-10 championships. Chellevold graduated from Thousand Oaks, Calif., High School in 1990. She attended UC Santa Barbara for a year on a volleyball scholarship, then transferred to Arizona to play softball the following season. She earned her bachelor's degree in exercise sciences from Arizona in 1995. |
