Eric Harding Peterson was appointed the New York Mets' Pitching Coach on November 5, 2003. • New York finished third in the National League in 2005 with a 3.76 team ERA. • Served as the pitching coach for the Oakland A's from March 26, 1998 until he joined the Mets. • His Oakland staff led the American League in ERA two years, posting a 3.63 in 2003 and 3.58 in 2002. • Under his guidance, the A's finished in the top three in ERA from 1999-2003...Tim Hudson, Barry Zito and Mark Mulder all flourished under his tutelage...Each became a 20-game winner and Zito captured the 2002 American League Cy Young Award. • Joined the Oakland organization as a roving minor league pitching instructor for the 1998 season and was named the major league pitching coach on March 26, 1998. • Was Toronto's minor league pitching coordinator from 1996-1997. • Was with the White Sox from 1994-1995...Co-directed the sports psychology program as it related to performance behavior. • Spent six seasons as a pitching coach in the Chicago White Sox farm system...Was with Birmingham (AA) of the Southern League from 1989-1991, Vancouver (AAA) of the American Association in 1992 and Nashville (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League from 1993- 1994...Was promoted to the White Sox on June 21, 1994. • Joined Cleveland's organization in 1986 and coached in Waterbury (AA) of the Eastern League in 1986, Buffalo (AAA) of the American Association in 1987 and Colorado Springs (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League in 1988. • Took over as the Pirates' bullpen coach in 1984...Was the bullpen coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1984-1985. • Coached with Salem (A) of the Carolina League from 1979-1980, Bradenton (R) of the Gulf Coast League in 1980, Buffalo (AA) of the Eastern League from 1981-1982 and Lynn (AA) of the Eastern League in 1983. • His playing career with the Pirates organization spanned four years, from 1976-1979...Also made several appearances as a playercoach in 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1988. • Attended Gulf Coast College in Panama City, FL before graduating from Jacksonville University with a degree in psychology. • Graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pennsylvania. • Was originally drafted in the 21st round of the June, 1976 Free Agent Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. • His father, Harding Peterson, was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the 1979 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates, and was also the General Manager of the 1990 Yankees. |
