In nine seasons as head coach at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California, Marty Slimak has enjoyed tremendous success, posting a record of 244-104-2 and leading the Kingsmen to the NCAA Division III World Series five times. A 2001 ABCA poll placed CLU baseball No. 28 in national rankings. That group made the NCAA West Regional Qualifier.
The team won its fifth consecutive conference title in 2000, earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships. CLU beat the top seed in the West and became a regional finalist for the ninth straight season. In 1999, the Kingsmen achieved the same finish, 33-14, and were third in the nation. Before becoming head coach, Marty served as a Cal Lutheran assistant for four seasons under Rich Hill. Slimak helped the Kingsmen to seven Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships in a row and has repeatedly been chosen SCIAC Coach of the Year. Slimak played under current USC skipper Mike Gillespie at College of the Canyons and played for two years at UC Santa Barbara, where he earned his bachelor's degree. An outfielder in college, Slimak earned honors at every level he played. While at COC, he was named to the All-California Junior College team. At UC Santa Barbara, he was voted the David M. Pollock Award, given to the athlete with the most outstanding athletic achievement in the school year. |
